Over the past few months, I had become inundated with spam coming through one of my websites: Internet Password Pro.
I thought my contact form was secure from spam bots and such but it definitely wasn’t the case.
Last night, I finally decided to do something about this.
If you haven’t heard of it yet, there is a great little script available from Joel Comm.
It’s called My Contact Station.
I believe it was released back in April of this year, so its still relatively new.
My Contact Station is designed with a few things in mind..
As you might have guessed, it is a contact form but with a twist; the form itself appears in a spam-proof popup style window when the support or contact link on your website is clicked.
Besides support, visitors can also use My Contact Station to send anonymous feedback.
With the deluxe version, it can also be set for opt-in newsletter subscriptions and a “tell-a-friend” feature to make your website more viral.
The script took me less than 10 minutes to install on my server after editing the config file with my details.
The support form features a nice, clean web 2.0 look and uses Ajax which adds some nice fade in and out effects.
For extra security, it also includes a “captcha” feature where a live human enters the correct numbers and letters before submitting the email.
This stops the spam bots dead in their tracks and prevents your email address from being harvested.
I purchased the basic edition myself and I’ve already received some positive feedback from 2 of my customers today.
The script is only $7 and if you resell it as an affiliate, you can get 100% commission added to your PayPal account.
Pretty cool, huh?
My Contact Station is, in my opinion a simple, yet very cool solution for keeping in touch with your customers and protecting yourself from time-robbing and potentially dangerous spam.
